Making Ornaments using images from DS!

September 26th, 2011

Hey everyone!  With Halloween quickly approaching, it’s time to start making your own decorations using images from DS.  I recently purchased a large tabletop cream colored tree from Goodwill for only 8 bucks!  It’s great since the color will lend itself to all holidays and seasons.  I set out making some ornaments to hang on it.  I’m sharing two of my faves with you today: the first from me and the second from Melissa, both using images from Tumble Fish Studio but the options are really endless.

I used a girl image from TFS’s kit Odd Magic.  I printed her out and glued her to some chipboard.  I have an array of the little metal muffin tins I find at the flea market and decided to nestle her in there with some orange poms.  I used  pipe cleaners for the handle and crepe paper for the rosette at the top.  Then I decorated her with a hat, wings and some glitter.   I love using found (or bought in this instance, lol) objects in my pieces to make them a little more interesting.

Melissa simply took a digital collage she made using images from TFS’s Male Persuasion kit, printed it out and glued to chipboard for stability.  She found this little niche at her local craft store for 25 cents! Yep, 25 cents.  She then elevated the collage on a couple of vintage dominoes, hung some string and voila!  Instant ornament.  Can’t get more cheap and easy than that…(the ornie, not Melissa…)  But I digress.

I hope you will give making homemade ornaments a try!  If you ever need more detailed instructions or tips, just give me a PM.

Do you know Ted?

March 25th, 2011

Confession time. I should be working on my new kit but it’s rainy, I am a bit under the weather and well….I got sidetracked. Blog surfing will do that. I love discovering new artists, new ideas and new websites. It’s like a modern day treasure hunt. Today, I was on Gary Reef’s website and he had linked up 2 very inspirational videos from Ted.com. Ted.com is an amazing website!! They post videos from some of the most amazing and inspirational people in the world. The videos are free to watch. Their tag line….”Ideas worth spreading.” Most videos run about 20 mins and range from science to design to business.

I agree with Gary and think these two are definitely worth a watch.

First up is Elizabeth Gilbert. She is the author of Eat, Pray, Love, She has thought long and hard about some large topics. Her next fascination: genius, and how we ruin it. Here, she muses on the impossible things we expect from artists and geniuses — and shares the radical idea that, instead of the rare person “being” a genius, all of us “have” a genius. It’s a funny, personal and surprisingly moving talk.

Next is Neil Pasricha. Neil’s blog 1000 Awesome Things savors life’s simple pleasures, from free refills to clean sheets. In this heartfelt talk, he reveals the 3 secrets (all starting with A) to leading a life that’s truly awesome.

I hope you find these talks as inspiring as I did. Be sure to check the site out as there so many other wonderful videos to watch.

Seasons are beginning to change, Spring here in the Northern Hemisphere, Fall for our sisters in the Southern Hemisphere. I always feel a little extra inspiration to get out and take pictures and to create something when the seasons change. How about you? Do you have Spring Fever and feel the need to clean house? Are you having fresh breaths of Fall air that call to you to come outside and enjoy the dance of the fall leaves?

Hollie has released Kitsch, inspired by her youth; Road trips with the family, summers by the pool, movies at the drive-in and decor that was all a little funky and a little cool. This kit is definitely a trip down memory lane.

Tara of Downunder Studios is back! She’s brought with her

“Here Comes Autumn”

Here is a kit for that perfect moment, you know that moment right before the leaves begin to fall! When the air is beautiful and crisp and you can feel that Autumn is on it’s way. Inspiration for this kit was book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  You will not find here any character from the book only the main motif: which is chocolate factory.

and EVERYONE knows that if you have chocolate then you’re going to need a big glass of ice cold milk to go along with it, so Marta also has Milky Day

This kit is a MUST have for every Milk and cow lover.  Funny cows, liquid milk splashes , drops and drips , cows udder and tongue, coffee, egg, butter, cheese, doodle frames and honey. But this is not all. There are some fluffy clouds, antique  pilot hat and glasses and “cowplane”.
